Abstract
Specialized hospitals, particularly emergency departments, aim to provide optimal healthcare services to patients quickly, accurately, and comprehensively in handling emergency situations to prevent disability and death risks (to save life and limb), with a response time target of 5 minutes. The variety of diseases and patient conditions, as well as the high influx of visitors to the Emergency Room (ER), have resulted in overcrowding. When the demand for services exceeds the capacity of the ER to provide quality care within the appropriate timeframe, prompt service becomes essential. This study aims to investigate the relationship between nurse response time and patient satisfaction in the ER of TK III DR R Soeharsono Hospital, Banjarmasin. The research employed an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 30 respondents who completed a questionnaire, and the data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the paired t-test statistical formula.
The total of 30 respondents revealed an equal distribution between fast and slow response times in the ER of TK III DR R Soeharsono Hospital, Banjarmasin, with 50% for each category. The majority of patients expressed satisfaction with the services provided by the ER of TK III DR R Soeharsono Hospital, with 22 patients (73%) reporting a satisfactory level of satisfaction. Only 8 patients expressed dissatisfaction, accounting for 27%. The results indicate a correlation between emergency room response time and patient satisfaction in TK III DR R Soeharsono Hospital, Banjarmasin.
These findings emphasize the importance of improving response time in the emergency department to enhance patient satisfaction. Strategies should be implemented to address overcrowding issues and ensure prompt and effective care delivery. By prioritizing efficient and timely emergency services, hospitals can optimize patient satisfaction and overall healthcare outcomes. Further research is recommended to explore additional factors influencing patient satisfaction and to validate the findings in different healthcare settings.
