THE EFFECT OF BACK MASSASE ON REDUCING PAIN SCALE IN APPENDECTOMY PATIENTS AT DR. R SOEHARSONO HOSPITAL BANJARMASIN
Abstract
Back massage is a method of providing slow, gentle strokes on the back area to stimulate the skin's surface and dilate local blood vessels.
The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of back massage on the pain scale in postoperative appendectomy patients. Appendicitis is inflammation caused by an infection in the appendix, which can lead to abscess formation and potentially rupture if left untreated, requiring surgical intervention. This study is observational analytical research with a cross-sectional design. The study sample consisted of 30 respondents, and a questionnaire was used as the instrument, analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the paired t-test statistical formula.
The results of the pre-experiment before the back massage treatment showed that 26 patients with moderate pain decreased to 27 patients with mild pain. The pain level in appendectomy patients facing surgery in the operating room before receiving back massage relaxation indicated moderate pain. There is an influence of back massage relaxation on the pain level in appendectomy patients at the level III DR R Soeharsono Hospital in Banjarmasin.
